March 2002
Update my journal more often? Hah! Again, I say, Hah!
I haven't dared to check my logs... I just hope the three of you still reading this stuff don't storm to my door and tell me what an idiot I am, and where have I been?
A lot has happened in the last (ummm, September, Oct, Nov, Dec, ummm...) six months or so. A lot.
September, you may recall, was started optimistically, looking forward to Halloween. And yes, Halloween came in October and it was grand! Look to that section of this site for details.
October also brought with it the closing of my employer. Suddenly, in the middle of my favorite holiday season, I had no cash flow. No stability. Alas, the show had to go on. You will notice, however, that most of the projects that were ongoing are not offgoing... you can attribute this to October 2001.
November I took a trip (planned from much earlier that year) to see my friends and family in Oregon. My sweety, Marla, went with. It was great! The skies were gray, the ocean was fitful, the winds were cold, wet, and bitter! Ahhh, I love Oregon. But you know, Texas is pretty okay, too.
December, we reversed the process (sort of) and I went with Marla to see her family and whatnot in Louisiana.
On Christmas morning, I proposed. She accepted. We will be getting married on November 23, 2002. The weather will be beautiful, because, well, it's Texas.
January, I pushed and pushed and finally gave birth to my third book (yes, it hurt that much). I love this book, though. It's great! BUT -- Prompt! books was sold by Sams, and bought by Delmar... so this book that was going to hit the shelves at the end or March 2002 (right about now), is now wading through the mess at Delmar. Merging book companies is a tricky business and, it seems, the author is who suffers.
February I recovered. And lord knows I needed that recovery time. Actually, since October, the development team from the old company decided to form a new one... so I am now VP of Development at Wittlock Engineering, LLC. Plus partner (one of three), documentation writer, advertising consultant, booth-hunk during conventions, AND R&D person. Oh, and I write code, too.
March, well, I'm starting to come back to life in March. At the end of this month, I'm doing a talk on robot brain architectures (based on three chapters of the new book) at the Robot Group. Who knows what madness this will inspire?
But, for now, that's it. As if that weren't enough.
