I built a custom pneumatic alligator launcher for Nightmare Factory in 2000.
The master of this beast was a Goblin Brain controller. It took only one (of its eight) inputs from a GP2D12 distance sensor, and when triggered, it did a variety of things.
First it simultaneously triggered the pneumatics to raise the alligator and sent a signal to the Screech module to play back the alligator's roar. The Screech mostly worked, but this particular one failed reliably about halfway through each night (the other one worked fine!) -- I have a plan to fix the design, though.
It also turned on a light that was turned on the alligator. Once up, it fired a pneumatic cannon as a secondary startle scare. The alligator was then lowered to the flow, and the cannon shot again as a trailing startle. I have two movies of the gator in action, each of which is about 1.4 Megabytes.
